Gogamukh college, a pioneer institution of higher education in Dhemaji district situated towards the north-eastern corner of assam, was established in the year 1981. It is idealy situated between Gogamukh Higher Secondary School and Gogamukh Girls School about 1.2 kms from Gogamukh chariali. The greater Gogamukh area comprising of Gogamukh, Mingmang, Nalbari, Bordoibam, Chauldhua, Halakhbari, Naharbari etc is a vast rural and backward area. It is inhabited by Tribal castes like the Mshing, Bodo, Sonowal Kachari, Deori, Tiwa etc, Schedule Caste like Koibarttas and other backward class people like the Ahum, Chutias and also other caste people like the Nepalees etc. The whole area is socio-economically and educationally backward.

Gogamukh College is a co- education institution with Arts and Science stream. It is a full fledged degree college affiliated to Dibrugarh University. The science stream still remains non-provincialised by the government.

From its inception the college has been dedicating in imparting education to the students of these backward areas and is substantially successful in bringing up socio economic and educational scenario of the area. Numerous alumni of the college are now working in various fields and contributing in the development of the society.

The college got UGC recognition under 2(f) ob 21.12.1996 and 12(B) on 20.11.1996 Accordingly the college has been receiving non-recurring grant from UGC for infrastructure development. In addition the college has been obtaining aids from the state government and other agencies from time to time. With these funds the college is able to develop its infrastructure and other facilities.
The college has been making all efforts to keep with the changing scenario in the field of education. It was accorded C++ grade in the first cycle and B in the second cycle of assessment process. On the basis of suggestions made by NAAC. The college has introduce several changes such as computerization in administration, internet connection in the library, computer skill course etc and many others.
The present Self-study Report (SSR) has been prepared on the basis of the modified version of the Self study manual which the college obtained on acceptance of its LOI and issue of track ID by NAAC. Due impotance has been given to include data from all aspects of the college as per the guideline of the self study manual and presented on the basis of the SWOC analysis.
